Frequently Asked Questions
Question: What is the difference between American Golden Retrievers and European (English Cream) Golden Retreivers?
Answer: This is a several part answer.
Coat Color- Americans have a coat color that can range from dark copper to light tan. Europeans have a light cream to white coat color.
Temperament- Americans are energetic and playful while Europeans are more docile and laid back. Both are ideal family-friendly companions.
Health- Americans are more likely to have hip and elbow displasias, along with cancers. These statistics, along with health and genetic testing of our dogs, ensure Europeans are healthier as a whole breed.
Question: When do we get to pick out our puppy?
Answer: Picking your puppy is a very exciting time! While the puppies are adorable from the day they're born, their personalities don't become apparent until about 6 weeks of age. This is when we start puppy selection. You will be contacted in order of deposit received on the reservation list.
Question: Do we get to pick our puppy out in person? What if we don't live within driving distance?
Answer: Yes! You absolutely can come to our home to pick your puppy out. We encourage you to come and meet the puppies to get a feel for their personalities. If you are unable to make an in-person selection, don't stress! By this time, we are very familiar with their personalities and can make a strong suggestion based on your desires. We prefer to do selections for our long distance families via Facetime or other video means.
Question: My contract says my puppy will be "limited" AKC registrable. What does this mean?
Answer: American Kennel Club (AKC) is the well-known registry of purebred dog pedigrees. When you adopt a dog that is registrable with AKC, this means that they come from parents that are verified purebred and registered by the AKC as well. Limited registration is "pet only" or "no breeding rights" included. Full registration is granted on a case-by-case basis. Please contact us for more info.
Question: When can we bring our new puppy home?
Answer: Puppies are ready to join their new families at 8 weeks old. Puppies socialize and bond with their littermates and observe behaviors from their mother for the first 8 weeks. Separating them from the litter before 8 weeks can be detrimental to their long-term well-being.
Question: We live out of state. Can we still get a puppy from you?
Answer: Yes! There are several options available to out-of-state adoptees; flight nannies, puppy shipping services, meeting family at airport are just a few.
Question: What do puppies come home with?
Answer: Along with lots of love, puppies go home with an AKC registration packet, a stuffy that smells like mom, first round of vaccinations and age-appropriate worming. The puppies will have been examined by our veternarian. The puppies also come with a 1-year health guarantee.
Question: What if I can't pick my puppy up on pick-up date?
Answer: Please contact us to arrange keeping your puppy for a longer duration. A $15 per day fee can apply. We try to be flexible!
Question: How do we pay for our new puppy?
Answer: After your application has been approved, we will send you a Venmo request for your deposit. This holds your place in line for choice of puppy. The remaining balance is due at the time of pick up of your puppy. We prefer cash at pick-up, but will accept debit/credit cards with a 3% processing fee. We will also accept a cashiers check.
Question: Is the deposit refundable?
Answer: No, the deposit is non-refundable, but can move the deposit to a future litter if preferred.
